S&P/Case-Shiller: Atlanta home prices down again in April

From the Atlanta Business Chronicle:

Home prices in Atlanta dropped 0.1 percent from March to April and declined 7.5 percent from April 2007 to April 2008, according to the Standard & Poor’s/Case-Shiller home price index.

The complete 20-city (MSA) index, released June 24, shows home prices were down 1.4 percent from
March to April and down 15.3 percent year-over-year.

Las Vegas and Miami were the weakest markets. Las Vegas posted a 26.8 percent decline in prices, and Miami recorded a 26.7 percent drop.

“There might be some regional pockets of improvement, but on an annual basis the overall numbers continue to decline,” said David M. Blitzer, chairman of the Index Committee at Standard & Poor’s. “All 20 MSAs are now showing declines with Charlotte, the last holdout during the 2007/early 2008 period, now reporting an annual decline of 0.1 percent. One possible bright side to the annual figures is that three MSAs — Chicago, Cleveland and Denver — while still negative, showed some improvement in their annual figures over those reported last month.

On the whole, houses have now lost four years of appreciation.
