Founded by Benjamin Bomar, Z.A. Rice, Jonathan Norcross, and I.O. McDaniel, the Daily Intelligencer was first published on June 1, 1849 and was the City of Atlanta’s first successful daily newspaper.

The only newspaper to survive the Civil War, the Daily Intelligencer ran until April 1871, when the printing equipment and archives were purchased at aution by the then-new Atlanta Constitution.
